We are leaving town for Christmas and will be gone approximately 7 days. There is an Olympic size pool and an awesome gym where we will be staying, but unfortunately, it shuts down over Christmas break (It’s on the University of Idaho campus) and there aren’t many options to workout other than walking in the frigid wind and snow. I will really miss swimming especially, because I have neck issues that cause excruciating headaches and swimming always stretches out my neck and back. Also, since I am mainly vegetarian, I am coming into a home where meat is the main focus of a meal! I am trying to bring a lot of my own food and don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings by dissing their food, but I am so used to a lower fat, meatless diet that when I eat those foods, I have digestive issues to say the least! They tend to make a lot of fried and fatty foods and my stomach hurts just thinking about it! i.e. beignets for breakfast (they are like fried dough), chicken fried steak, fried and battered shrimp, meaty lasagna, etc. Wish me luck!!

A former Master swimming buddy of mine who I haven’t seen in about a year, contacted me and wanted to workout for an hour. He is a former collegiate swimmer and high school coach and WAY faster than me, however, we used to always swim together because by the time I finished a set, he had gotten lots of rest in between. I also like swimming with him because he always gives lots of helpful pointers Anyway, we met this morning and decided on a 3000 yard workout. I swam pretty hard yesterday and hoped for the best today. Since he always came in first on our sets, he was calling out my time and pushing me to try and be faster each set. I always die on 200’s (I think it’s a mental thing!) and was already feeling spent, then he wanted me to try and do all my 100’s on the 1:25! This was really pushing the limit, THEN he wanted to 50’s on the :45. I didn’t know if I was going to make it…..but I did, arms burning and all. He wants to do it all over again next week, we’ll see…
