Went for a short run before I start cookin’! I’m not a big turkey fan, but love the mashed potatoes and stuffing. I even made an apple pie, I don’t care much for pie, given the calories, I would much rather have a big hunk of dark chocolate. Anyway, as I reflect back on the year, I am thankful that I have such a wonderful family, that my husband STILL has a job at HP and for my health. Happy Thanksgiving!

After running the half marathon Nov. 1, I decided to try and keep on top of running. In the winter, I tend to swim more and do spin classes, but now that I’ve built up a good base and can easily run 6+ miles, I’d like to continue.

This was my longest run since my half marathon Nov. 1st and it felt great! It was only 30 degrees when I started, but by the time I was done, the sun was brilliant and it warmed up to 45 degrees. Lots of hills on this trail!

This was my first half marathon in 6 years and I was hoping to beat my last time of 2:12. The weather was perfect; 55 degrees, no wind and light rain. The run was thru the rolling hills outside of Boise, ID. At the start line, right next to me, was a guy I had known since kindergarten, we wished each other the best and took this as a good luck sign. I felt really good until about mile 6 and my knee started to have shooting pain. The last time I ran this race, most of the roads were gravel, but this time, they had been paved. Anyway, I know my knee was hurting because of the pavement and the sloped angle of the road and I tried to run in the dirt on the edge of the pavement. This proved to help and my knee didn’t hurt much for the rest of the race. At mile 7, I knew that I needed to eat and drink something and forced down some shot bloks and gatorade. I instantly felt my energy return. After mile 9, the rest of the race was an easy downward sloping course. I felt like I was strong and was running as fast as I could, but was a little disappointed to see that my time was 3 minutes slower than 6 years ago; I guess that is what age will do to you! Overall, I felt it was a good race and hope to do that one again.

As I taper down for my race on Saturday, I tried to run at a faster pace since I knew I would be doing less than 6 miles. I have come a long way since August where after every hill, I would have to walk for a while; now I can just keep going even after a fairly steep climb. I’m looking forward to Saturday!

Went running this AM with a friend who is doing the same half marathon as me. We decided to run part of the race course, but got a little lost and had to cut our run to 7 miles. My knee is feeling good, just hope it feels that way for the longer distances!

After last Friday’s grueling run and knee pain, I didn’t expect much today. But, it was a great run! Started out running against 15 mph winds in 41 degrees, but warmed up after a few hills. I bought another pair of running shoes (I’ve tried 3 so far and returned all of them!) and they were great, no knee pain whatsoever!! Decided not to go and lift because I want to rest my knee a bit and will swim in the early AM.

I never thought I’d be running 12 miles, but I did! Ate my Shot Bloks after 60 mins and took a water break and felt pretty good until mile 7 when the knee pain starting kicking in. I managed to run most of the way back and just walked whenever the sharp shooting pains started. Only had time to ice my knee for about 10 minutes afterwards and will take some Ibuprofen to prevent swelling. i bought some new shoes, but they don’t seem to make any difference. I have confidence now that I can run my half marathon in 2 weeks.

This was the first time EVER that I’ve run nearly 7 miles and felt great the whole time!!! I was running rolling hills and tried to run each hill faster than the last. I had no knee pain, no gut pain, nothing!! It was awesome!! I think I increased my mileage last week too fast. I know I’m not going to win this 1/2 marathon, so why kill myself (and my knee) trying??
