Since I don’t have a cycle computer on my new bike, I have no idea how far I went. It’s been a while (at least 13 years!) since I’ve gone for a ride on a skinny, hilly goat trail and now that I’m older, even a little scary! The new bike is great and I really enjoyed it so far. Soon the trails will be too muddy to use, so have to take advantage of this dry fall weather.

I’ve always wanted a road bike, but it just wasn’t practical right now, so I got a new mountain bike instead of a road bike. I had a hybrid, but it wasn’t great on trails and was always getting flats. So anyway, I took my new bike out for a short ride and loved it! Didn’t get a chance to go on a real trail ride, but will do that soon.

Went for a bike ride today w/hubby and was gone from 2pm-6pm, Yup-4 hours!! Rode for only about 20 minutes and had a tire blow-out. Found a rip in the tube right on the seam, patched it up, put it back on and it deflated immediately. Patched it again, remounted the tire and same thing!! We patched the dumb thing 4 more times with the same results and tried different patches, but nothing worked. My persistent husband couldn’t believe that the patch wouldn’t take, and kept trying different things to no avail. He then rode over to the nearest sporting goods store and they of course, were out of my size tube, so he bought another patch kit!!! Tried it, didn’t work. I told him to ride home and leave me there and then come back and pick me up. He got about a mile and then remembered that he had an extra tube for his tire and wanted to try it (his bike takes 26″ fat mtn tubes and mine is a skinny 28″), but we said “what the hell” and tried to stuff that fat tube in with much difficulty, pumped it up and…..it held. I noticed that in places the tire was hard as a rock and in others it was flat, so I tried riding a short distance and it was so bumpy that it was difficult to ride. I told my dear husband that I appreciated his efforts, but he still needed to ride back home and then come and pick me up. Thus the tale of my long, yet short ride! Lesson learned: always carry a spare innertube!!!!

Loaded up the kids and put the buddy bike on for my 5 year old and hit the greenbelt. What an absolutely perfect day weather-wise 83 degrees w/low humidity. I have to take advantage of these nice days because soon it will be so dang cold I can’t stand it! Anyway, didn’t go far or fast this time since the kids were with me.

Went for another ride near Selway Falls and followed the river. At the top of the summit, we took a rest and my brother-in-law’s bike was leaning against a tree; next thing we know, the bike tips over and breaks his seat post right off!! He had to ride all the way back without a seat!!! The worst part for him was trying to keep his feet on the pedals because there were so many darn washboards. He was able to walk the next day, but his quads were bulging! Saw a doe and her 5 babies along the way, also saw 4 turkey vulture-if they aren’t the ugliest creatures on earth!

Took our bikes on our week-long camping trip on the Selway river in Idaho. What a great area for rafting, kayaking, swimming and biking/hiking! Went up a side road near O’Hara creek and had a nice ride, could have kept going but it was getting really hot!
Workout:
Took a bike ride on the greenbelt that runs along the Boise River. No flats this time- yeah!! It’s a shame that the greenbelt doesn’t continue through the entire Boise area, some greedy developer bought the rights to a small parcel of land and ruined it for the rest of us! Otherwise, it would keep going for approx. 40 more miles. Instead, you have to dismount and walk your bike about 2 miles-boo!

Went camping and went for a ride. Stayed mostly on the road as I have a hybrid and the tires are fairly skinny. Was having a great time until my nephew drove up on his motorcycle and told me he saw a bear on the ridge above me!!! Never did see the bear, so don’t know if he was feeding me S*@& or not!
